I can’t tell you the number of times over the past year I’ve said, “I can’t take it anymore…this is too hard.”

For a Type A person like myself, and perhaps you can relate, sunshine, I like to think that I am the one single-handedly in control of carrying every burden. And with this responsibility, I’ve assumed that I am also responsible for finding every solution.

The rifts in my family’s strained relationships.
The number on the scale.
The influx of money in my account.
The quality time I get to spend with loved ones.
The reaction of others to my behavior (which is not always Christ-like.)

Now, don’t get me wrong here, sunshine; God requires us to do our part so that He can do His, but there are so many things beyond our control and well-beyond our natural strength. Which is the reason Jesus asks us to surrender our burdens unto Him.

You are not meant to carry your own cross, sunshine, nor are you designed to carry anything that God hasn’t equipped you to carry.

So in week 3 of Scripture Memorization, letter C is from Matt 11:28,
“Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”

This involves you doing your part.
Making the call to the family member who’s hurt you.
Choosing healthier snack and meal options.
Waiting to make the purchase instead of putting it on your credit card.
Spending time daily reading The Bible and praying.

Then after you’ve done your part, you must take the next essential step: surrender your worries and fears.
When will my wayward child return?
Where will I get the money to pay next month’s mortgage?
How much longer do I have to stay in this job?
What will the scale read today?
How can I love my husband when he treats me like this?

Since I’ve been relinquishing my control and sharing my burden, I can’t tell you that all of my situations have been ameliorated, but I can tell you that I do have a peace and joy that I didn’t have before.

This is my highest hope and prayer for you, sunshine. .

As you go about this week, dear one, I encourage you to do your part.

Trust.
Make wise, self-controlled choices (last week’s scripture–1 Peter 5:8).
Walk in love.
Surrender the “leftover” part to Him.
Be filled with peace as you rest knowing you’ve done your part, trusting Him to do His.

With love for a great week,

 Frannie
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and
you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.
