fasting

You may recall the 1980s Life cereal slogan: “Try it. You might like it.”  That is my advice for you today, well, with a slight modification.
If you are in need of a breakthrough in some area of your life or are praying on behalf of another, I encourage you to pick one day in the next week and try fasting for a day.
This Biblical practice paired with prayer is extremely powerful and can release strongholds, provide clarity and reveal areas in need of God’s healing, love, and forgiveness.
I encourage all of the women I work with to practice fasting routinely, as it serves as a pseudo 9-1-1 call to God when you sacrifice something important (it does not have to be food!) and speak to Him in His language as you lean upon Him for strength during your time of sacrifice.
There are many references to fasting in both the Old and New Testament and even Jesus reminds us how we are to act when we fast (not if we fast Matt 6:16-20).
So if you are praying for a breakthrough–weight loss, new job, restored relationship, healing from cancer, forgiveness–or any area in need of deliverance, try this powerful practice today.
It just might be the answer you’ve been looking for all along, sunshine.

P.S. If you ever want someone to fast with, I typically do it once a week, usually Wednesdays, as that is the night I meet with my girls’ group during the school year;  I like to be prepared for what the enemy might try to throw my way. Let me know if you are ever interested in joining me and fellow fasters.
