Last week, I listened to a sermon from Rick Warren, the author of Purpose Driven Life and lead pastor at Saddleback Church in California.
The week before Thanksgiving, he initiated a campaign called “34 days of Prayer” where he challenged his church community to join together as The Body of The Church to commit to prayer and fasting for 34 days in order to receive a breakthrough in a particular area of their lives.
Finances.
Relationships.
Career.
Children.
Marriage.
Health.
I don’t know about you, sunshine, but I am in dire need of a breakthrough in several of those areas.
While a few weeks late to the party, I signed up immediately.
As I clicked submit, the Holy Spirit prompted me to share this challenge with you, sunshine. I’ve encouraged you to fast and pray numerous times previously and many of you’ve conveyed your requests and needs for breakthroughs in your life with me recently, too, so it made perfect sense to include you in this exciting advent preparation.
As you will see, this is such a powerful and well-organized program and demonstration of corporate prayer that I for sure wanted to share it with others–and I encourage you to invite others to the Breakthrough Party, too!
There are some specifics of what to pray and for whom, and he uses clever left and right hand visuals to help you be deliberate and intentional with your requests. (Even if you choose not to join for the next month, I felt these were very clever and helpful for praying in general; I invite you to check them out on the outline.) I love the way that he has Biblical passages and examples to back up each and every description, too. Good stuff.
The gist is until January 1, (I’m extending the deadline since we missed Saddleback’s kick-off date of 11/22) anyone who’d like to join in this challenge, we will kick off tomorrow, Monday, December 5, 2016 with a day of fasting and praying 3x throughout the day using Pastor Warren’s sermon suggestions and as he’s described in his message notes.
